Best Way to Reach the Gwalior Fort From Railway Station

Gwalior Fort has two entrances and both of the entrances are far from each other. That means you have to choose from which entrance you want to enter the fort. The first entrance is called Qila Gate and the second one is Urvai Gate.

For the Qila Gate entrance –

The nearby entrance to the Gwalior fort from the Gwalior railway station is approximately 4 km away via Tansen road near Hazira market, commonly referred to as Qila Gate by local residents. There are many autos, cabs, and rickshaws at the railway station going to the Qila Gate back to back. They nearly take 10 minutes to drop you at the entrance gate of the Gwalior Fort.

For the Urvai Gate entrance –

The other entrance to the historical Gwalior Fort is the western entrance commonly referred to as Urvai Gate featuring huge Jain idols carved from stone. This is the best and most comfortable entrance to the fort only if you have come here from your own vehicle. From the Urvai Gate entrance, you can reach the hilltop of the historical fort with your vehicle but from the Qila Gate entrance, you can’t take your vehicle to the hilltop of the fort and have to walk the fort hill till you reach the fort. To reach the Urvai Gate entrance you have to come to Bahodapur tiraha via Shinde ki Chavni from Gwalior Railway station and then go to Anand Nagar road till you reach the Urvai Gate tiraha.

As a Gwaliorite I suggest you to choose the Urvai Gate as your entrance to the fort because it is the most comfortable and also the view from this gate is so beautiful. And also you will definitely not want to miss the huge Jain idols carved from stone. From Gwalior railway station it will take approx 15-20 minutes to reach the Gwalior fort via Urvai Gate. But I assure you that you won’t regret these more five minutes you spend to reach the majestic Gwalior fort via Urvai Gate.
