For the Qila Gate entrance –
Qila Gate is the nearest entrance to Gwalior Fort, located about 4 kilometers from Gwalior Railway Station. It is located on Tansen Road, near the Hazira market. Getting there is easy, as you will find plenty of autos, cabs, and rickshaws available right outside the railway station. These vehicles run frequently and can take you to the Qila Gate in about 10 minutes. It’s a quick and convenient ride to begin your journey to the magnificent Gwalior Fort.
For the Urvai Gate entrance –
The western entrance to the historic Gwalior Fort, known as Urvai Gate, is famous for its stunning Jain idols carved into the stone cliffs. This entrance is the most convenient if you’re traveling in your own vehicle. From here, you can drive all the way up to the fort’s hilltop. In contrast, if you use the Qila Gate entrance, vehicles are not allowed to go up the hill, and you’ll need to walk to reach the fort.
To get to the Urvai Gate entrance from Gwalior Railway Station, take the route via Bahodapur Tiraha and Shinde ki Chavni, then follow Anand Nagar Road until you reach Urvai Gate Tiraha. The journey takes around 15–20 minutes by car.
