My Trip To National War Memorial, New Delhi, India
Last Sunday, I went to India Gate in New Delhi with my friend. It was my first trip to India Gate after the Covid-19 pandemic. Near the India Gate, the National War Memorial is located. When I first visited India Gate in 2018, there was no War Memorial here, only Amar Jawan Jyoti is located here.
I found a lot of changes at the India Gate since my last visit. A statue of the great Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bosh has been installed at the India Gate and the Amar Jawan Jyoti has been shifted to the War Memorial. The flames of the National War Memorial and Amar Jawan Jyoti are now merged.
I found this place very peaceful, well-maintained, and a must-visit site in New Delhi. The design and structure of the memorial are very good and one can see stones & bricks inscribed with the names of all the Indian soldiers who died in wars starting after the independence.
The design of the War Memorial New Delhi comprises four concentric circles (chakra), where each chakra is signifying different values of the armed forces – Amar Chakra (circle of immortality), Veerta Chakra (circle of bravery), Tyag Chakra (circle of sacrifice), Rakshak Chakra (circle of protection).
