History & Facts About the Famous Aadiyogi Statue in Tamil Nadu

The Adiyogi statue is a 34-metre tall, 45-metre long and 25-metre wide steel statue of Shiva with Thirunamam at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

It is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "Largest Bust Sculpture” in the world.

It is designed by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder and head of the Isha Foundation.

This iconic image of the first yogi is 150 feet long, 25 feet wide, and made from around 500 tons of steel.

Devotees can offer a vastram to Adiyogi by tying a black cloth on any one of the 621 tridents surrounding Adiyogi.

It took two and a half years and dozens of design iterations to create Adiyogi’s face as he stands today.

Sadhguru had a vision in his mind of how Adiyogi’s face should be depicted, and Sadhguru wouldn’t settle for anything less than the realization of that vision.

Adiyogi was inaugurated on 24 February 2017 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
