A few days before I got the chance to visit one of the amazing historical places of Madhya Pradesh which is Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Shetra, Sonagiri. Sonagiri is a small town in Datia district near Dabra and it is about 60 KMs from Gwalior city. Sonagiri is basically a Jain pilgrimage hill station and it is one of the primary pilgrimage places for the Jain devotees.
In this article, I am going to tell you about my trip experience to Sonagiri, the history of Sonagiri temples in Datia, and the complete travel guide to Sonagiri temples in Datia Madhya Pradesh.
My Trip Experience to Sonagiri Temples in Datia, Madhya Pradesh
I found Sonagiri a very beautiful and peaceful place to visit near Gwalior city. There are more than 100 temples situated on the hill and all the temples have excellent architecture. The history of Sonagiri is from the 9th century onwards. It is said that on this hill more than 5 crores of ascetic saints have achieved liberation.
Sonagiri is one of the best places I visited in recent times. If you are looking for a peaceful and historical place to visit then Sonagiri is the perfect choice for you. Also, the spiritual significance of this place is on the next level. Many renowned and learned Saints are known to have gained salvation at this place. A 9.8-foot rock-cut statue of Lord Chandraprabhu is situated at the hill station, dating back to the 5th to 6th centuries.
Sonagiri is very popular among tourists coming from Agra, Gwalior, Jhansi, Orchha, etc. Ascetic saints come to Sonagiri – Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Shetra to practice self-discipline, and austerity to attain salvation/ liberation (Moksha). Sonagiri is one of the 40 Amazing Places To Visit Near Gwalior.
