Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is a popular Sikh temple in New Delhi, India. Thousands of devotees visit the Bangla Sahib temple daily to offer their prayers to the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Ji. I also recently visited this magnificent shrine with my friend and offered my prayers to Shri Guru Maharaj Ji.
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most visited tourist sites in Delhi. It is located near one of the most happening places in New Delhi, Connaught Place. It was my first visit to the Bangla Sahib temple and I found this holy place very beautiful and heavenly peaceful.
In this article, I will tell you about my visit to the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib at CP, I will also share the true history of Bangla Sahib, Bangla Sahib temple timings, and a complete tour guide on Bangla Sahib, New Delhi.
True History of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Temple
Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was actually the palace of Raja Jai Singh, a Hindu Rajput ruler in the 17th century. When Guru Har Krishan visited Delhi in the year 1664, he stayed here. During that time, there was a smallpox and cholera epidemic, and Guru extended his helping hand to the affected people by offering water from the well located within the palace complex. Soon he too contracted the illness and eventually died on 30 March 1664.
After the death of Guru Har Krishan, King Jai Singh dedicated this palace to commemorate the revered Guru. In India, palaces are more often called Bungalows or Bangla in Hindi. With time, this bungalow became a prominent house of worship for the Sikh community and is now popularly known as Bangla Sahib among devotees and tourists.
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the few Gurudwaras in the country that wasn’t originally built as a shrine. Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and its Sarovar (pond) are now a place of great reverence for the Sikh community and a place for a special congregation on the birth anniversary of Guru Har Krishan Ji Maharaj.

My Experience at Bangla Sahib Gurudwara
It was Sunday when I visited Bangla Sahib, and as expected there was so much rush at the temple. Although there was a large crowd, everything was so well-managed and the entire area was kept very clean.
The access to Gurudwara was good and a large parking space is also available to park cars or bikes. In the basement, shoe holders are provided to keep the shoes safely with tokens.
All the Gurudwara staff (Sevadar) are also supportive and well-mannered. Photography is not allowed but yes you can take little photos if you want. One must keep their head covered inside the Bangla Sahib temple complex.
The holy pond at the Bangla Sahib looks very beautiful and one can also take a bath in the holy water. Colorful fishes in the pond make it more amazing. It is one of the most peaceful places that provides a lot of positive vibes.
